Sensory Space at Play Radnor/Chwarae Maesyfed, Wales

Wales

Play Radnor/Chwarae Maesyfed, Llandrindod Wells, opened a new Sensory Space project focusing on a dedicated Sensory Room in Wales, and has been awarded a grant of £15,000. This initiative, aimed at providing inclusive, therapeutic play opportunities for children and young people facing social and economic disadvantage, is set to make a meaningful impact on the local community by giving children a chance to thrive.

About Chwarae Maesyfed Sensory Space

Located in the heart of Powys, Play Radnor (Chwarae Maesyfed) has long been committed to providing inclusive play, leisure and recreational opportunities for children and young people, particularly those who may face disadvantage. Operating from The Play Hub in Llandrindod Wells, the organisation plays a vital role in supporting families across this rural region, helping to tackle isolation and improve wellbeing through accessible activities and services.

Officially opened on 26th February 2026, this new Sensory Space provides a calm, engaging and interactive environment designed to support wellbeing, relaxation, and sensory exploration. The facility will benefit children and young people from across Powys, including those with additional needs, offering a safe and nurturing space where they can develop, play and build confidence.

At the opening event, attended by families, community representatives and Wooden Spoon supporters, the importance of the project was clear.

Rachel Maflin, Manager at Play Radnor, shared with guests that the Sensory Room:

“will provide a calming, interactive space designed to support wellbeing, relaxation, and sensory exploration for young people across the whole county of Powys for many years to come.”

Thanks to funding from Wooden Spoon, this Sensory Space reflects the charity’s commitment to creating inclusive, supportive environments where children and young people can grow, develop and reach their full potential.
